Family Members of Crime Victims

The families of homicide victims can apply to VVF for grief counseling as the spouse, parent, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or child of a homicide victim. This benefit is capped at $3,500 per person.

Dependents of homicide victims are entitled to receive a loss of support benefit from VFF. Social Security Death Benefits should be applied first and VVF may supplement these benefits.

The parent or guardian of a child victim can claim benefits from VVF on behalf of the child. This includes mileage to doctors, counselors, and court appearances, along with several other benefits. VVF can also pay for some counseling sessions for a parent or guardian that specifically address parenting and care of a traumatized child.
